Track Record of Performance

Operational Leadership

  • Performance-driven leadership of large, complex operations including call centers, mail order pharmacies, and pharmacy benefit claims operations.
  • At OptumRx, led the Home Delivery Pharmacy organization. The organization included facilities in 8 different states and employed over 2000 individuals.  Managed an operating budget of $280 million.  In 2016, the Home Delivery Pharmacy business generated $4.5B in revenue and shipped 40 million prescriptions.  Completed complex operational integration.  Developed 3-year capacity plan for dispensing facilities to align with new business growth projections.  Transferred dispensing production from Catamaran’s legacy semi-automated pharmacies to newly constructed fully automated dispensing sites.  Migrated all claims processing from Catamaran’s legacy system to OptumRx’s prescription processing platform. Developed and executed facility consolidation plan for front-end processing sites. Saved $30 million in operating expenses in 2016 through execution of multiple integration initiatives.  Identified additional $17 million in savings for 2017.
  • Installed OptumRx’s largest home delivery client to date with more than 5 million prescriptions annually. Required unique customized service model to meet client requirements.
  • At SXC/Catamaran, led Customer Service and Prior Authorization call centers, Manual Claims, and Print Fulfillment.  Call Center organization included 1000 in-house agents and 300 agents at the outsource vendor sites during the January peak implementation season.  Budget responsibility of $62 million in operating expenses and $27 million in print and postage expenses.
  • Developed multi-year capacity and technology strategic plan for the Customer Service Call Center to enhance service offerings and increase competitiveness.  Selected vendor and implemented external call center outsourcing operation. Designed and implemented new IVR system with member self-service functionality which delivered 10% automated calls in the first year.  Improved customer satisfaction by 20 percentage points through focused programs for mail service calls, soft skills training and enhanced issue resolution processes.
  • At SXC/Catamaran, led multiple successful integrations for call centers and claims operations.  Re-aligned management teams and reinforced shared goals and culture.  Streamlined operations migrated to common technology platforms and re-engineered workflow processes.   Achieved synergy targets by improving productivity with new technology solutions, reducing facilities, outsourcing and consolidating vendors and renegotiating contracts.
  • At Caremark, led PBM mail order pharmacy shipping 20k prescriptions daily.  Oversaw significant growth and the addition of over 200 staff.   Generated $700 million annually in revenue.  Managed annual expense budget of $32 million. Led a complex organization of 450 employees, including operations and support functions.  Took poor performing operation and improved cost management, clinical revenue, service, quality, and efficiency.  Completed relocation to new, larger fully automated facility ahead of schedule.   Negotiated $400,000 incentive with city.
